A leading Boston-area firm in the Architecture / Engineering / Construction (AEC) industry is struggling with network performance, even having upgraded their infrastructure less than 18 months prior. Other issues, including disk space utilization exist, but performance is number one. The firm wants to invest wisely, as the economy and business continue to slow.

As a nationally recognized leader in architecture, design, and planning, the firm is moving aggressively into unified project management and building information modeling. Both technologies help improve efficiency, quality, and information management, but place strenuous demand on networks and systems.

Results
A technical IS Assessment and IS Roadmap, focusing on the firm's networks and systems lays out a program for managing network, system, and disk capacity over time.

In the short-term, Horizon identifies solutions that mitigate costs, conserving value capital and cash.

  • Reconfiguration of the core switch topology mitigates performance issues without any investment.
  • Creating data management and archiving procedures, along with a small purchase of local disk, postpones the need for a SAN by 10 to 12 months. The plan provides capacity and performing while saving $60,000 in the current fiscal year.
The firm will need new switches and a SAN. The solutions implemented enable the firm to balance IT spending with other priorities.
